I have to say I wasn't a fan of True Blood when it started. I just wasn't getting it. But the buzz kept building and building and I could not ignore it anymore. So I caught up and rejoined the show for season 2 and have become 100% hooked. I love Alan Ball. Six Feet Under was a legendary and groundbreaking show with truly engrossing characters. This is what True Blood aspires to be, albeit with a Cajun supernatural vampire angle.
While the quasi-anti-religious angle is hardly original, the chemistry of Jason and the preacher's wife is mesmerizing. Against the backdrop of impending vampire genocide, the moments that Jason and Sarah share are so intense you almost forget about that they are training a militia. And you almost forget to wonder why they are so interested in Jason...
It is the perfect summer show. At least until Mad Men starts.
